An Ounce of Prevention

Unlike exterminators, The YellowJacket Expert is all about education. One of the most important aspects of keeping your home and family safe from stinging insects is to understand how to check your home for small nests during the months of May and June. Walking around your property and looking for nests that are starting to grow on your can be easy and safe you a lot of time and trouble. You may see two types of nests developing. Nests may appear slightly different depending on what phase they are in. Below are some examples of what you may see on or around your home.

The good news is that nests this size are easy to eliminate. Early in the morning, you can use a solution of organic soap and water or you can just knock the nest off with a stick. I say early in the morning because it’s cooler then. Inside the nests’ queen, is still lethargic in the early morning hours. She won’t attack you. Squishing, soaping, or knocking down the nest will take care of it. Warning! If the nest is any bigger, or if you see activity throughout the day, it’s best to give me a call and let the YellowJacket Expert deal with it.
